The Green Valley Educational Institute (GVEI) today inaugurated the 5th edition of the Green Valley Model United Nations (GVMUN) at the school, bringing together delegates from different schools and institutions across the valley, to engage in discussions on global issues, diplomacy and international relations.

The Inaugural ceremony was attended by Chief Guest, Nasir Aslam Wani, Advisor to Chief Minister, Guest of Honour, Salman Ali Sagar, MLA Hazratbal and Chief Education Officer Srinagar, Mr Ghulam Mohiuddin Bhat.

The welcome address was presented by the Director, GVEI Prof. (Dr) Fayaz Ahmad Nikka, where he highlighted the importance of such conferences that allow students thinking globally but acting locally. “The idea is to bring UN to the classrooms, and taking learning beyond the constraints and allow students to become globally conscious,” he said. He also highlighted the efforts of the school towards experiential  learning  for holistic personality development of students.

The Secretary General of the GVMUN, Aayat Azeem in her address highlighted the legacy and importance of this conference at Green Valley. She mentioned the distinction of having more than 250 delegates making this years’ conference much bigger. She also introduced the Core Team.

This year GVMUN features six different committees where important agenda items like eradicating domestic violence, reforming global drug policies, the gulf crisis will be debated and discussed over the next two days.

The Chief Guest, Mr Nasir Aslam Wani, declared the conference open. In his address he appreciated the efforts of Mohd Yousuf Wani, Chairman GVEI in taking this institution to new heights. He said that students need to question and satisfy their curiosity and conferences like GVMUN are the perfect platform. “The schools need to enhance the skills of students so that they are prepared for the future job market,” he said.

The ceremony also featured an enthusiastic cultural performance by the students.

Green Valley Model United Nations (GVMUN) is an annual conference organized by the Green Valley Educational Institute providing students with a platform to develop skills in public speaking, research, negotiation, diplomacy and critical thinking while engaging with contemporary global issues.
