Today, the Department of Social Science and SSD organized a comprehensive field activity for Class 11th Humanities students under the supervision of Dr. Fayaz Ali, Dr. Nasir Nabi, Ms. Safiya, and Mrs. Fiza Ashiq. The program was designed to combine both historical and environmental learning experiences, giving students a holistic understanding of the interconnection between culture, society, and ecology.

The students first visited the historical Awantipora Temples, built by King Avantivarman in the 9th century. Guided by their teachers, they explored the architectural remains, art forms, and religious traditions associated with the site. The visit allowed them to appreciate Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage, while also reflecting on the sociological and archaeological importance of monuments in shaping collective memory and identity. The exposure went beyond textbook knowledge, sensitizing students towards the preservation of cultural heritage.

On their return journey, the students made a field stop at Dal Lake to conduct a case study on the social implications of urbanisation on the ecosystem. They observed challenges such as pollution, encroachments, waste disposal, and the decline of traditional livelihoods like fishing and vegetable cultivation. The interaction highlighted how urban growth and tourism pressures affect both the natural environment and human communities, resulting in displacement, health concerns, and cultural loss.

Together, the two visits provided students with practical insights into the relationship between society, history, and environment, fostering critical thinking on sustainable development and conservation.
